在英文论文中引用文献时，应遵循以下规则和格式：

直接引用

介绍作者，然后直接引出作者的原话。例如：“According to Francis Bacon, a renowned British writer, ‘the familiar picture of Victorian man alone in an alien universe’”（Dayton, Daniels, and Bob Matthew Williams, “Journal Article Title”, Journal of Academic Research, vol. 32, no. 15, 2014, pp. 123-145）。

间接引用

不直接引用原文，而是总结或概括作者的主要观点。例如：“Bacon condemned Plato as ‘an obstacle to science’” （Farrington, Philosophy, 35）。

引用格式

MLA格式：

作者姓氏+引用部分的页码，两个作者使用“and”连接，姓氏和页码中间无逗号，句号放在括号外。例如：Smith （2020, p. 45）。

引文不足三行可直接融入论文，超过三行则需分开，行距为左边第一个字母十个空格，引文不需加引号，末尾的句号标在最后一个词后。例如：“The divorce of Arnold's personal desire from his inheritance results in ‘the familiar picture of Victorian man alone in an alien universe’” （Roper 9）。

APA格式：

作者姓氏+年份，括号中标注页码。例如：Walker （2000, p. 123）。

多卷书需注明卷号，例如：“Professor Chen Jia's A History of English Literature aimed to give Chinese readers ‘a historical survey of English literature from its earliest beginnings down to the 20th century’” （Chen, 1:i）。

Chicago格式：
