Respecting All Creatures

Days ago, in a biology class, our teacher told us something about the gene project and some experiments done on animals. He was talking about it in a proud tone, but I felt really upset when I heard that. I think it's unfair to treat animals like this. Yes, nowadays, we often hear about new discoveries brought by this kind of experiments. But when we humans are proud of how clever and great we are, does anyone of us think how miserable it is for those animals that sacrifice in the experiments? We inject viruses and bacteria into their bodies to observe their reaction, in this way, we can know more about the illnesses that we can't cure at present and we may get rid of them in the future.

Why Respect Is Important?

Going back in time, respect played an important role in survival. If we think of a small tribe wandering in the desert, we can imagine that a person not respected by anyone could be left behind and die. Such a person was considered to have no worth, no importance, no value to the group. This, I believe, is the foundation of our psychological need to feel respected. Nowadays it seems much more possible to survive without being respected. Someone could, for example, inherit a large sum of money, have many servants and employees and have salesmen constantly calling on him and catering.

Respecting Others

As human beings, we all crave the respect of others, which is coded into our DNA. If you show your respect for others, you are more likely to gain their respect. Just as the saying goes, "Respect others, and you will be respected". It indicates the great significance of respecting others in our daily life. First and foremost, respecting others gives them confidence and encouragement, especially those who are not as good as you. Your respect can help them become upbeat and active, and even enhance their self-assurance. In addition, polite words help improve your interpersonal relationships to a large extent.

Respecting Parents

When we go to school, the teachers tell us that we should respect our parents. Parents are who raise us, giving all their hearts to look after us. For my parents, they are the best people for me, when I am sick, they look after me carefully. When I go home late, they will worry about me. They give me so much, I love them. According to a recent survey involving over 3000 undergraduates, 35% of university students have never said “Thank you” to their parents. Their parents have done all they could to bring them up in the past score of years, but have never been rewarded with gratitude.

Respecting Others

Respecting others is a fundamental respect of building positive and healthy relationships with people around us.
